Monterey Bay, I spent a lot of time ruinning around Fopt Ord. When I first arrived in the fall, the rolling hills were covered in live oak trees and dried European grasses. It was beautiful,&nbsp; but I was really charmed when the wildflowers appeared in the spring. This is Ribes speciosum, the fucsiaflower goosesberry. I loved the combination of formidable thorns and vibrant red flowers hanging down daintily. It is in the Iris family, and has six purple tepals with a golden center. A fallen blossom provided the material for closer study with a dissecting microscope.
